UK Haulage and Delivery Information
There is no clear defined weight which is deemed the maximum weight for a Container.
40 Tonnes is the actual maximum weight limit on the UK Roads, for lorries with 5 axles or less, or 44 Tonnes for lorries with 6 axles.
This is gross weight, including the Tare weight on the Container, which is for a 20’ Container is usually around 2,400 Kilos.
The average weight of an unladen truck and trailer is 15,500 Kilos.
This therefore leaves a maximum load weight of 22,100 Kilos for a Standard truck and trailer. When any sized Containers exceed 24,000 Kilos, a Tri-axle trailer will be needed, and this adds 10.0% of the delivery cost.
