UK Sea Ocean Freight Arrival Procedures
Site updated regularly - Page last updated January 2011

Every freight shipment, travelling anywhere around the world, is issued with it's own transit document, regardless of the mode of transport. For all 'Air' freight shipments, this document is called an 'airwaybill (AWB)'.
There are 2 types of airwaybill, depending upon who is arranging the export of the goods.
The main airwaybill, which is issued by the airline being used, is called the 'Master airwaybill (oftern written as'MAWB')'. All Air freight shipments arriving into the UK, under a MAWB, can be divided into 2 categories.
- The first, is called a 'Back to Back' - Usually, just the one shipment, travelling under one Master airwaybill (MAWB). It is quite common that these 'back to back' shipments, travel to their destination airport on the first available flight.
- The second, is called a 'House airwaybill (often written as 'HAWB')' - Your goods, having its own HAWB, travelling with other shipments, under a MAWB, on a 'Consolidated Service' or 'Consol' for short. The other difference of a HAWB to a MAWB, is that these 'Consols' tend to depart once or twice a week, on pre-booked cargo space, with the airline. ukimports.org
